Our CPD short course in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is designed for those who would like to use MLD techniques within Clinical Therapy.
Our two day CPD short course in Manual Lymphatic Therapy is accredited by the FHT and STO and provides 16 CPD hours. This course is insurable by Balens, BGI UK, and Hiscox (plus other companies may also insure for clinical use).
This course is open to Sports Massage Therapists at Level 3 or above, along with Sports Therapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors and Physiotherapists as continued professional development.

About the course
Course Design
Our course is designed in relation to industry standards and is independently accredited by the Federation of Holistic Therapists and the Sports Therapy Organisation.
This course provides 16 Continual Professional Development hours (CPD).
Training day will provide a mixture of theory work practical demonstration and supervised treatment.
You will be practising and receiving Manual Lymphatic Draining techniques throughout this course, under guided supervision.
Overview of Course
- Introduction to MLD Therapy – history and key benefits of use.
- Anatomy and Physiology linked to the use of MLD therapy and the lymphatic system.
- Contraindications and contra-actions for use.
- Treatment aims and efficacy.
- MLD treatment techniques.
- Demonstration and application of MLD Therapy (but not be limited to) the following areas:

Anterior and posterior lower limb including the foot.

Upper limb including the axillary region and hand.

Abdomen and chest regions.
- Gluteal and wider back region.
- Neck from both prone and supine and the wider facial region.
- Full body treatment practise
- A range of treatment aims and conditions will be discussed to include treatment post surgery and scar tissue.
Entry Requirements & background
Course applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old and must hold a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in Massage Therapy / Sports Massage Therapy. This course is also open to Sports Therapists, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors and wider therapy professionals (if you are unsure if you fit the course criteria, please email dawn@coreelements.uk.com )
Applicants should have also have been practising Massage Therapy for a period of time prior to enrolling on this course.
This course will focus on the application of MLD as a modality within Clinical Therapy.
On completion of the course students will be able to demonstrate effective use and application of MLD skills in the management of injury and treatment, in a safe and effective manner and will have a clear understanding of contraindications for treatment.
This course is taught using a hands-on approach, therefore you will be practising and receiving MLD treatment throughout both teaching days, whilst receiving ongoing input from the tutor.
This course is independently accredited by the Sports Therapy Organisation and Federation of Holistic Therapists and insured by Balens and BGI UK.
Course Tutors
Taught by Emma Stuart BSc (Hons), SST
Emma graduated from the University of Gloucester with a Honours degree in Sports Therapy.
Her journey in Sports Therapy aged 40 after sustaining many running injuries. At this time Em was already a successful Sports Massage Therapist, but her passion to learn more took her towards further study.
Em currently runs her own clinic in Gloucester called Em Stuart Injuries. Along with running her clinic, Em is also a qualified Dive Instructor and teaches for Core Elements Training.
Em currently teaches on several of Core Elements courses including our Level 4 Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy Diploma course and our CPD short courses in in Manual Therapy and Joint Mobilisation, Rehabilitation for Sport and Exercise and Myofascial Dry Cupping.
Em is passionate about both teaching and clinical therapy and loves to impart her knowledge when teaching on behalf of Core Elements Training.
