Our Level 5 Diploma in Sports and Clinical Therapy runs over 8 individual modules, a course introduction day, revision day and practical assessment day.
Each module will introduce you to a different modality that can be used within treatment, assessment or rehabilitation.
This course is suitable for Therapists that have achieved a Level 4 Certificate or Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy, Clinical or Deep tissue Massage Therapy (or similar).
On successful completion of ALL elements of the course, passing all assessments methods, and completing the specified clinical treatment hours, you will be awarded with a Level 5 Diploma in Sports and Clinical Therapy, which is independently accredited by the Federation of Holistic Therapists and the Sports Therapy Organisation.
All course members are able to gain free professional membership with the STO (see further details below)

About the course
COURSE outline
Our accredited Level 5 Diploma in Sports and Clinical Therapy runs over 8 individual modules, which introduce you to a range of modalities, that can be used within treatment, assessment or rehabilitation. Course modules are selected upon course enrolment and can be completed at your own pace (typically over a 12 month period). For those who would like to complete the course modules over a longer period of time, modules can be booked as independent CPD courses, and when completed there is a Top Up option to enable you to complete the full Level 5 diploma. In addition to the 8 modules, students are required to complete 4 individual assessments, which include: Due to the nature of the modalities, a large proportion of the course is practical based, allowing you to gain as much practice and confidence as possible. |

All modules are taught using a hands-on approach, therefore you will be providing and receiving therapy modalities throughout the teaching days, whilst receiving ongoing input from the course tutor.
You will work with different members of the group throughout the different modules to acquire experience of different body types and experience ways to adjust yourself as a therapist, to achieve successful treatment.
Dawn Morse BSc, PGCE, MSc
Dawn has a Masters Degree in Sports and Health Sciences, is a qualified teacher, Sports Massage Therapists and Sports Scientist and has over 15 years teaching and lecturing experience. Dawn is the founding director of Core Elements Training, and was previously the programme leader for the University of Bath Sports Therapy degree, and was an Associate Lecturer for the Open University.
Georgina King BSc (Hons), SST Sports Therapy
Georgina graduated from the University of Worcester with a First Class Honors degree in Sports Therapy. During her time at University Georgina worked with Worcester Warriors Rugby and Academy, Worcester Wolves Basketball and National Taekwondo providing pitch side medical cover and clinical work.
Emma Stuart BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy
Em graduated from the University of Gloucester with a Honours degree in Sports Therapy. Her journey in Sports Therapy aged 40 after sustaining many running injuries. At this time Em was already a successful Sports Massage Therapist, but her passion to learn more took her towards further study.
Students are required to be 18 years or above to study the Level 5 Diploma in Sports and Clinical Therapy and should have an accepted Level 4 qualification in Sports Massage Therapy / Clinical Massage Therapy / Deep Tissue Massage Therapy or similar.
If students don’t have an accepted Level 4 qualification in Sports Massage or similar, enrolment onto our Level 4 Sports Massage Diploma is advised.
On successful graduation from the Level 4 course students can progress onto our Level 5 Diploma.
Students should have a adequate level of English to be able to complete the written course assessments. Students should be prepared to complete independent self study hours between course modules and to revise and practise for course assessments.

Course introduction - Online
The course introduction is available online.
This means that you can start the course at any time and listen back to the assessment requires as often as you need to.
You can ask questions about any of the course assessments via the Online app or via email, so you will be supported through this process.
Plus you can email draft versions of the assessments for checking, prior to submission.
As soon as you enroll onto the Level 5 Diploma or the Top Up Diploma, you will be send login details to the Online platform.
Our Course introduction focuses on the structure of the course and the assessment methods.
All four assessment methods, so that you have a clear plan for completion.
You will also be introduced to academic essay writing and referencing, which will be used during the course assessments.
Course assessments include:
- A fully referenced academic essay (2,000 words), on two modalities included within the Clinical Therapy Diploma.
- A 4 week rehabilitation plan.
- A detailed case study assessment which is fully justified (based on 2 clients followed over 7 subsequent treatments).
- A practical assessment.
- You are also required to complete 100 treatment hours, which will be documents in a log book.
Module 1: Rehabilitation for Sport & Exercise
This three day module will expand on injury treatment and will develop the use of rehabilitation principles and modalities within the context of sports therapy. Module 3: Electrotherapy & Ultrasound
This two day module will expand on injury treatment knowledge, planning and management; And will develop the use of Electrotherapy modalities including ultrasound therapy, TENS, NME’s, Infrared and Combination therapy. This module will be focused on the following areas as outlined below.

Module 4: Manual Therapy & Joint Mobilisation
This three day module will develop use of Manual Therapy modalities and joint mobilisation techniques. On completion of the course students will be able to demonstrate effective use and application of manual therapy modalities in the management of injuries in a safe and effective manner. Module 5: Musculoskeletal Examination & Assessment for Sports Therapy
This one day module will develop knowledge and practical skills in the planning and administering of examination and assessment techniques for sports and clinic injury. This module is highly practical and focus will be drawn to the use of joint assessment and special tests. Overview of Course
This module will recap some of the elements covered within our Level 4 Sports and Remedial Massage Diploma and will expand on these skills with additional testing and evaluation methods.

Module 6: Myofascial Dry Cupping
This one day module will focus on the application and theory behind the use of Dry Cupping Therapy from a Western perspective. The use of Dry Cupping Therapy within Sports and Remedial Massage treatment will be discussed along with its’ benefit in relation to manual massage techniques. On completion of the course students will be able to demonstrate effective use and application of Dry Cupping Therapy in the management of injury treatment and will have a clear understanding of contraindications for treatment. This one day module will provide a mixture of practical application, theory work, group work and supervision of treatment.

Revision day & Practical Assessment day
Revision and Practical assessment days are held twice a year.
Your preferred date is selected upon booking a place on the course.

The revision day will recap the format for the practical assessment and will enable you to prepare for the practical assessment in groups, under the guidance of a course tutor.
Course Assessments
To successfully graduate from the Level 5 Diploma in Sports and Clinical Therapy you need to successfully pass All assessments and complete 100 clinical hours.
Course assessments include:

Supportive Resources
This course is supported via an Online App / website, which provides details of all course assessment methods, along with the course modules, and the reading list. Downloadable copies of the module manuals and PowerPoints is also available on the App, along with recap videos for practical elements of most modules.
The App doesn’t replace face to face module content, but is instead provided for recap and revision purposes. Questions can be sent via the App, or you can also email any questions that you have during the course.
Course members are also able to book one to one tutorials when required to discuss module content, or assessment methods.
